Customer Service Basics for Internet Marketers

When you go shopping, how do you judge your experience? By the customer service provided to you by the sales clerks of course! You immediately notice what kind of customer service you get when you shop in a store or eat in a restaurant, and this has a lot to do with whether you ever return to that business again. Unfortunately, as important as customer service is, it’s something too many internet marketers leave out of the equation when they think about their business. The internet may seem vast and impersonal, but people who shop online still value customer service as much as customers do anywhere else! Read and study the following strategies and you can set yourself apart by offering great customer service to anyone who visits your site.

Get a mailing address from each of your buyers and then, after they have purchased something from you, send them a handwritten note thanking them for their business. This is going to work better for you if you don’t have a very large business yet. It’s little things like this that make you look great in the eyes of your customers.

Customers will be thrilled that you have taken the time to draft a personal thank you note and will be much more likely to buy from you again in the future. Writing a proper thank you note should not take long at all anyway. This could ensure future sales that can add up to hundreds of dollars.

Make sure that your web pages and sales pages and e-mails are all well written. Correct any mistakes in spelling or grammar. Remember, your website is what people are going to judge you by. Having lots of typos and mistakes on your site will not be sending the right message to visitors, and may make them doubt that your products are services are a good value. You can always hire a writer to help you if this isn’t something that comes naturally to you. There are a lot of writers and editors offering their services online nowadays; ask one of them for help.

You should also have a system in place so customers can easily ask questions, make comments or ask for support. In fact, if you are difficult to contact, you may never make many sales in the first place. Sites that don’t have ways for customers to contact the owners appear to be untrustworthy or scams.

You can’t expect to run an online business and remain completely anonymous; you have to give people some personal service. This means allowing them to contact you. This does mean a little more effort on your part, but if it means more sales, isn’t it worth it? Just knowing they can contact you is often enough to convert visitors into paying customers. It shouldn’t be a chore to provide good customer service. If you are doing it correctly, it should not take much repeated effort and it will become second nature.

You can probably offer great customer service by spending five to ten minutes each day to make sure each of your clients get what they deserve. Think of it this way, that extra time you spend on customer service could really rake in the sales for you. Now that you are thinking in terms of satisfied customers, you can get to work doing these things immediately. It can only help you!

This is a great article. Many times people think because they are an online business you don’t need customer service. No matter what business you are in customer service is so important.
