Social Networking Website Traffic
Probably one of the most apparent and obvious ways of profiting from Web 2.0 are social networking sites. Why? They have BOATLOADS of traffic coming to their website every day. Their user bases are known to grow at rates of ten thousands of users and more a day. Any marketer knows the key to making good money online is to have fresh prospects. First I will go over how to specifically use MySpace and Facebook to send a good amount of qualified traffic to your website.
Using MySpace to market to the public is not as easy as it is to market to Facebooks users. The reason being is that currently MySpace does not offer a program for marketers to advertise to its users. Instead, MySpace makes money through acting much like a TV Station. Every time you go to MySpace, you can see the newest movie become what I call the “wall paper” for MySpace. In addition, MySpace displays many “dating sites” advertisements and Google advertisements. Okay, so how would a smart marketer use MySpace to bring plenty of traffic to his or her niche website? Easy!
Create a real and meaningful profile and communicate. For this example, I’m going to actually go over a good friend of mines profile. Why? I have known him for years and personally know that he used MySpace to practically create his career from scratch. This guy came out of the Marines with really no direction on where he wanted to go. He received a job as a bartender in a club in Atlanta and realized there was a need for there to be “party” or “club” promoters. With that said, he decided to create a “party promoting” website in which clubs would pay him to bring people to their clubs on any given night.
This guy knew practically nobody in Atlanta, but realized if he could work hard to develop a good following and reputation, he could make a lot of money. I’m using him as an example because MySpace is the reason why this guy might not ever have to work again, and his success and techniques can be duplicated in practically any niche, not just party or club promoting. For his privacy, I’m not going to disclose his MySpace ID or business website, but I’ll show you specific examples from his profile that have led to his success.
First of all, I remembered when my friend CREATED his profile just two years ago. He has over 5500 friends, all avid party and club patrons in the Atlanta area. He started off by literally requesting for friends one at a time for a couple of months. What happened next was amazing. From day one, he advertised himself as a party promoter who will show you the best and cheapest places to party. He has also been collecting names and e-mails since the first day he created his MySpace account.
He simply uses Aweber.com to collect names, e-mails, and send out his weekly mailings to his avid user base. What really amazes me is that as much as his purpose on MySpace is to promote his business; his user base hardly even notices what his purpose is. Once you click on his profile you feel like you are clicking into a fun environment to look at parties and girls. You would think he spends countless hours maintaining his MySpace profile, but I know firsthand that the guy literally spends no more than probably 8 hours a week accepting friend requests, posting parties, and communicating here and there.
Yet, when the guy sends out his bulletins and e-mails completely from people he networked with on MySpace, he is able to turn his visitors into a huge amount of cash in his pocket.
Why does MySpace present so much opportunity for anyone in any business?
- It’s a internationally recognized brand of seamless communication
- It’s closing in on 200 million total registered users
- It’s easy to network with thousands of people in no time at all
- It’s easy to be creative
How do I get traffic to come to my website from MySpace?
- By putting together a creative and appealing profile
- Constantly requesting new friends (there are automatic friend adders out there that work very well with this process)
- Providing value and entertainment in coming to my profile
- Capturing the users name and e-mail (use aweber.com)
- Sending out bulletins (basically advertisements to people on your friends list that EVERYONE sees)
The best thing about using MySpace to drive traffic to your website is it doesn’t cost you anything at all. With anything good of course comes bad. MySpace has one of the highest levels of spam and fake account signups. Follow the rules of MySpace and you will not be tagged as one of these accounts. If you’re purpose for signing up to MySpace is to spam the world, then you should probably not bother with MySpace at all.
